Firouzeh Taghikhah

I am a research fellow in Persuasive Systems for Wise Adaptive Living (PERSWADE) centre, School of Information, Systems and Modelling at University of Technology Sydney, Australia. My main research interests are in the areas of sustainable development, socio-environmental systems, and behavioral science using complex systems methods and operational research. I recently obtained my PhD (with honour) in Analytic and Systems Modeling from Faculty of Engineering and IT, University of Technology Sydney (2016-2020). In my thesis, I developed a decision support tool to explore the transition pathways towards sustainable agro-food systems focusing on consumer behavior change.

In 2019, I received a highly competitive and prestigious scholarship from the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI) for my research on developing behavioral models using agent-based modeling method. During my study, I have successfully completed two projects, including “gamification for sustainable future” funded by Blue Skye Grant UTS (2018) and “Trade logistics, export diversification, and productivity–A scoping study in Mongolia” funded by SEED Grant University of Wollongong (2018). Currently, I am a part of a research team working on an application that helps land stewards use their land cultivation processes to maximize its value for biodiversity, social and economic benefits, resilience, and carbon capture.

The fellowship in the Young Resilience Fellows Program offers me an opportunity to come to UT in pursuit of expanding my collaboration with Professor Tatiana Filatova on computational agent‐based models for resilience modeling. In particular, we plan to exchange ideas and share experience on the use of new techniques such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning methods. Moreover, in collaboration with Professor Maria Iacob, I plan to advance current methodological base by integrating technical supply chain models with social agent‐based models. To make sure these results can be beneficial for 4TU and wider global community, I will write a blog post for the 4TU Centre for Resilience Engineering website or contribute with a short video lecture. I understood that this sort of digital resources might be useful for the Resilience Academy repository.

I believe that the 4TU Centre for Resilience Engineering is a place to expand my academic network and support me to establish grounds for future research and collaboration with scholars at UT working on resilience.
