DeSIRE programme has proved to benefit academic careers
The 4TU.DeSIRE programme is winding down before its formal end on June 9 2023. However, its legacy will continue within the Resilience Engineering community. Not only yielded the programme an impressive amount of scientific work, the attention that went into capacity-building of early-career researchers laid the foundation of a flourishing academic community.

Open Educational Resources platform receives funding
The “Cooking up Open Education Resources for the Resilience Engineering Community” project receives a TU Delft Open Education Stimulation Fund 2022. Camilo Benitez and colleagues have successfully applied for this fund to continue developing the Open Educational Resources of the 4TU.Resilience Engineering community.

Adopting a resilience lens in flood risk management
An interdisciplinary group of experts from Deltares, GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences, TU Delft,  VU Amsterdam, Middlesex University London, The World Bank and 4TU.Centre for Resilience Engineering argues in a new opinion paper that extra elements must be added to flood risk management in order to make better decisions and develop strategies which enhance resilience and equity. Their view was published on 18 November 2022 in Nature Communications Earth & Environment:

Looking back at the DeSIRE Conference 2022
It is with pleasure that we look back at the DeSIRE Conference 2022: two days in which all the facets of Designing Systems for Informed Resilience Engineering were touched upon in the full scope of its supporting themes. Through thematic sessions - nicely balancing both inspirational talks by our researchers and interactive tours or workshops, the DeSIRE community showed the results made in the Resilience Engineering domains of Agri, Cyber, Decision-Making, Energy, Ethics, Networks, Urban and Water.

Tina Comes hands over Evidence Review Report on European Strategic Crisis Management in Brussels
On 29 June Tina Comes handed over the Science Advice by European Academies (SAPEA) Evidence Review Report on the EU’s Strategic Crisis Management to Maarja Kruusmaa, member of the Group of Scientific Advisors to the European Commission. The report is to inform the EU’s role in strategic crisis management. Since crises affect virtually all aspects of our societies, the report spans field ranging from the use of data and strategic foresight to dealing with the implications of climate change; from food security to improved governance; from (in-)equality to participation.
