The international classroom: good for students and our knowledge economy
On 8 March - after nine years - Arthur Mol will hand over his role as rector magnificus and vice-chairman at Wageningen University & Research (WUR) to Carolien Kroeze, Professor of Environmental Systems Analysis. Mol will return to science and be given a personal chair in environmental sciences. Besides being rector, Mol will also take his leave as chairman of 4TU.Research; the consortium in which he was active together with the rectors of the other three TUs to stimulate research collaborations.

INTERVIEW | Erik van der Vleuten and Jan Korsten about the plans of the new 4TU.History of Technology centre
As of 1 January, a new centre has been added to the 4TU.Federation: 4TU.History of Technology. The centre aims to boost the discipline of history of technology. 4TU spoke to scientific director Erik van der Vleuten and managing director Jan Korsten about their plans and motivation. ''Historical awareness of the roles that technology and engineers have played in addressing past societal challenges is important and will be helpful in thinking about solutions to the societal challenges we face today and in the future.''

Start new 4TU centre for History of Technology
From January 2024, the four technical universities are pooling their knowledge and expertise in the field of the history of technology in 4TU History of Technology. The new centre aims to provide students, engineers and the wider audience with a historical awareness of the role that technology and engineers played in societal transitions in the past two centuries, as well as to develop working methods that makes such knowledge actionable today.

Release Cardiovascular Technology Research Agenda
In a significant step towards future-proof cardiovascular healthcare in the Netherlands, 4TU.Health and the Dutch CardioVascular Alliance (DCVA) published the Cardiovascular (Biomedical) Technology Research Agenda. To reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease by 25% by 2030, this strategic roadmap outlines a pioneering approach to address the challenges posed in cardiovascular health and care through innovative technology.

"Shortage of engineers is a threat to a sustainable world"
Recently, the Danish education minister called for more international students to be admitted. This was just two years after the Danish government had drastically reduced the number of English-language courses. This U-turn stems from significant labour market shortages Denmark is now facing, costing the country billions of euros, according to the Danish Chamber of Commerce.

On November 2nd, the Innovation Attaché Network of RVO (Netherlands Enterprise Agency) visited the province of Gelderland. The delegation consisted of 80 representatives (Innovation and Agriculture councils) from over 15 countries around the world.

Netherlands Academy of Engineering appoints 62 Leading Experts
The Netherlands Academy of Engineering is about to start and has appointed 62 top experts as fellow (NAE members). These experts, originating from the realms of engineering, applied research and innovation, will play an active roll in fulfilling NAE's mission. They share the conviction that engineering-based innovation is the key to create and deploy solutions that address pressing societal issues and transitions.

Afterlife wins the fifth edition of the Dutch 4TU Impact Challenge
The final of the 4TU Impact Challenge took place on Thursday 12th of October for the fifth time and was hosted by Eindhoven University of Technology. The professional jury selected Afterlife from Wageningen as the winner.
