Advancing University Teaching and Educational Careers: Final Publication Sector Plan project
Advancing teaching careers is a strategic priority at our universities. As part of the national ‘Sectorplan Onderwijs Betatechniek’ this 4TU Centre for Engineering Education publication Advancing University Teaching and Educational Careers brings together insights from our universities and experts committed to structural improvements in the recognition and appreciation of teaching.
So how can universities strengthen teaching careers and integrate them into academic frameworks? The recently published 4TU.CEE report Advancing University Teaching and Educational Careers is a robust source of information, providing a comprehensive analysis of educational career paths, teaching recognition, and professional development in 4TU universities. It is essential reading for academics, policymakers, and leaders working to establish clearer career pathways for university educators, highlighting ongoing efforts to enhance teaching culture and exploring key questions:
- Are there opportunities for academics who aspire to a teaching-focused career, and if so, what are these opportunities?
- Do different stakeholders perceive a teaching-minded culture?
- Is management equipped to foster such a culture?
This is just one of the opinions gathered from ten stakeholders at all four TUs and available in the report, which also includes:
- The integration of teaching careers into academic frameworks and tenure tracks.
- Findings from the Ruth Graham Teaching Cultures Survey on perceptions of teaching recognition.
- Policy recommendations to close the gap between institutional ambitions and practice.
- A final event report of the Sector Plan Project.
