Sandra Lucia Cobos-Mora

I am Sandra L. Cobos-Mora,  professor and researcher at Universidad Católica de Cuenca (Cuenca - Ecuador) and a Ph.D. candidate by Universidad de Sevilla. I currently lead a research lab in Geomatics and a research group in Urban & Earth Data Science.

My research field focuses on analyzing and modeling mass movements, natural geomorphological phenomena that have catastrophic consequences, to achieve safe, resilient, and sustainable cities, especially in developing countries. My research spans improving predictive models through quantitative methodologies such as machine learning algorithms to learn from historical inventories and their physical, climatological, environmental, and anthropogenic characteristics. Besides, implementing remote sensing as a fieldwork support technique is essential to analyze earth systems.

As a young fellow within the DeSIRE Research Fellow Program, I will explore innovative methodologies to analyze land deformation and correct bias from predictive models. This experience allows me to collaborate with well-positioned researchers such as Dr. Hakan Tanyas, Dr. Luigi Lombardo, and Dr. Caroline Gevaert. Furthermore, I genuinely believe that the 4TU Centre for Resilience Engineering and ITC will allow me to expand my research and academic network, as well as bring new collaborations with Universidad Católica de Cuenca through future projects with scholars at UT working on resilience and mass movements.

I was a Young Fellow in the 4TU.DeSIRE programme.
