Registration Form ICRS26 Workshop Wednesday 25 March.
Workshop on Complex Adaptive Social Systems and Natural Hazard Resilience: Application, Methods, and Feature Directions.
9:00 - 10:30 - Workshop / Co-Learning Lab:
The Post-Disaster Urban System as a Complex Adaptive System: Where Does Resilience Come From?

Participants in this workshop must have registered and paid for their place at the ICRS 2026 conference. This registration is solely for this specific workshop, which is part of the ICRS 2026 conference:

Co-learning Lab on The Post-Disaster Urban System as a Complex Adaptive System: Where Does Resilience Come From?

ICRS, Wednesday 25 March 09.00-10.30 | Organized by Dr. Milad Zamanifar (Milad@planetary-resilience.org)

Please register - limited amount of seats!

This session aims to understand post-disaster urban resilience as an emergent behaviour of a complex sociotechnical system. We try to capture the interdependency among agents and across levels. After a brief synthesis and introduction of a hypothetical disaster scenario, participants work in groups to identify interconnections, causal relationships, and feedback loops among agents across three levels: community, governance, and critical infrastructure. Each group presents its findings on the identified critical nodes, enabling factors of resilience, recommendations for governance, and the origin of self-organization. The session’s objective is to familiarize participants with complex system modelling, multi-level emergence, adaptive cycles, network analysis, and system mapping. Please register beforehand, since this helps the organization and there are a limited number of seats.

This workshop follows on a short course on Complexity Science for Resilience Research and Policy: Applications and Limitations , organized by the same track the day before, Tuesday 24 March 14.00-15.00. More information to be found in the program online.
