Summary
This is an introductory teaching activity in which students learn to recognize the presence of/potentials for resilient urban transformations. The activity format is a 2-hour workshop that can be carried out with a large group of students.
- Possible formats: in-class interactive workshop; homework assignment with discussion in class or in a forum (e.g. as part of a MOOC
Learning objectives: By the end of this teaching activity, students will be able to:
- Identify the spatial elements of urban resilience in a given urban context
- Formulate potentials for spatial transformations that can contribute to resilience
- Critically reflect on the implications of resilience measures in urban space.
Brief description
Students analyse a given urban space (1 image/video/known site), as follows: (1) they identify and write down the spatial elements that contribute to resilience, (2) they propose transformations that could improve the resilience of that urban space (e.g. by drawing on top of the images), and (3) briefly discuss the wider implications of those transformations from a multi-disciplinary perspective. In a class context, the exercise can be carried out in groups.
