Twente Resilience Meeting & Drinks

Thursday 21 April 2022 / 16.00 - 17.00

Since January 2018, the 4TU Centre for Resilience Engineering (4TU.RE) has been set-up, including the 4TU DeSIRE programme. In January 2019, UT established “Engineering for a Resilient World” as one of the five strategic themes. Because of these two important initiatives, we want to build and strengthen a local resilience network/community Resilience@UT, as part of several national and international networks that are being set-up around (aspects of) resilience.

The presentations provided in this meeting are united under the title Managing the unexpected in crisis negotiations - Some insights in the methodologies of a forensic linguist and social psychologist.

The next University of Twente Resilience Meetings & Drinks is hosted fully online on the 21st of April by the VU-UT Creating secure societies impact coalition. Since this is both a cross-faculty and cross-university meeting we thought it was good to talk more about each other’s methods to see when another discipline could be of help for your research project. In this meeting Fleur van der Houwen, a (forensic) linguist and discourse analyst from the VU, and Miriam Oostinga, a social psychologist from the UT, will talk about the methods they use in their line of research. In the meeting they will focus specifically on the situations in which crisis negotiations do not go as planned, which then asks for some adaptability/resilience of the negotiator. So, this meeting is interesting for you if you want to know more about how we analyse language and behaviour or want to get some basic knowledge about crisis negotiations.
