Michiel has been involved in the development of public safety policies at municipal, regional and national levels since 2003. He is currently exploring the use of dynamic data for risk assessment in relation to transport incidents, areas with high population density and wildland fires.
Furthermore, Michiel is a qualified and active fire officer. His current operational position is Hazardous Materials Specialist. In this role, he acts as a consulting expert on chemical and radiation hazards to the fire and disaster mitigation chain of command, as well as to civil authorities.
Michiel studied law (LLM) from 2005 to 2013 and obtained his PhD in 2019.
