The festive closing of the Academic Year 2014 – 2015 of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) took place on Friday 3 July 2015. During the event the Academic Annual Awards were announced for the best master thesis, design project and doctoral project of the TU/e.

The festive closing of the Academic Year 2014 – 2015 of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) took place on Friday 3 July 2015. During the event the Academic Annual Awards were announced for the best master thesis, design project and doctoral project of the TU/e.

This year’s Academic Design Award 2015 for the best PDEng design project, was granted to an alumnus of the Automotive Systems Design programme. The jury unanimously granted the award to  the design project conducted by Serkan Külah PDEng.

With his design project “Transient Cylinder Pressure Sensor Estimator for Heavy-duty Diesel Engines” Serkan Külah has been focusing on further development of a so-called virtual cylinder pressure sensor at TNO.  This should minimize system costs of the fuel flexible control system, which is essential for a successful introduction in the automotive market. This design has been made in charge of TNO Automotive under supervision of dr.ir. F. Willems (TNO Automotive), prof.dr.ir. M. Steinbuch and dr.ir. M.C.F. Donkers from the TU/e.

The results of the work led to a scientific paper that was presented at the 2015 Society of Automotive Engineers Work Congress in Detroit in April 2015.

We congratulate Serkan Külah on his great performance, his research and design and wish him success in the future.
