ICT (Track within DEES)

The Design of Electrical Engineering Systems programme trains designers in specifying, designing, building and evaluating complex multidisciplinary systems that can process, store and convey information.

Within the Design of Electrical Engineering Systems (DEES) programme we offer two EngD tracks:

• Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
• Healthcare System Design (HSD)

About ICT
The ICT programme trains designers in specifying, designing, building, testing and evaluating complex multidisciplinary systems in the domain of information and communication technology. These systems are used in the important societal research themes of the TU/e Department of Electrical Engineering. The design of innovative consumer products and professional systems that communicate with their (global) environment (e.g. wireless and electro-optical communication) is extremely challenging. This leads to many new solutions, for example embedded software, monolithic integrated (opto-) electronic circuits in the field of telecommunication, medical applications and consumer products. The ICT programme educates you in the design of systems that can process, store and convey information in every sense of the word. This programme includes describing and simulating circuit parts and designing and constructing system parts and components. In addition, the interaction between hard- and software is fully addressed.

EngD degree

When you successfully complete the Designer’s programme, you will receive a certified diploma. You are entitled to use the academic degree Engineering Doctorate (EngD).

Benefits

A certified Design of Electrical Engineering Systems (DEES) designer has in-depth knowledge of design processes, theoretical as well as practical, which clearly distinguishes him/her from a ‘normal’ MSc. Industry needs graduated engineers, who are capable of working in the multi-disciplinary world of designing and who are aware of the latest design methods. This requires technical creativity and knowledge in a variety of expertise fields, cost awareness, written and verbal presentation skills, in brief: Professional Development. The course programme of the Design of Electrical Engineering Systems programme, individually tuned for each of the candidates, extensively pays attention to the above. Most of the graduates find excellent positions in the high tech and ICT industry, often within the company where the final design project was carried out.

Curriculum

The programme starts with a year of advanced education, followed by a major technological design project of eight to twelve months in a company. The programme consists of among others:

First year

Second year
