About the engineer of the future

Present day engineers are taught with methods and content of yesterday for problems they will face tomorrow.  Problems as framed in the grand engineering challenges, such as: urbanisation, energy transitions, artificial intelligence. In this emerging future world, the profession of engineering acquires new meaning and requires new roles and skills. This workshop challenges the participants to consider ‘The Engineer’ of the future and the accompanying roles and skills.

Activity

In this workshop we will be guided by Matthijs van Dijk of Reframing Studio. Matthijs holds a Chair in Applied Design at Delft University of technology and has developed an innovation method VIP vision in design. This method is the backbone for reframing ‘the engineer’ of the future. In the workshop the emerging vision of the future is shared and together with the participants ‘the future engineer’ will be shaped within this future context. A number of design thinking methods will be applied to realise this ambition.
