Interview with Jim Portegies about NRO Scale-up and 4TU+.AMI grants for 'Waterproof'
According to many mathematicians a major shift is taking place in the mathematics research landscape. Mathematicians and big tech companies are working intensively to formalize (i.e. translate to a format that can be read by a computer) mathematical proofs and verify their correctness using so-called proof assistants. Long research articles, which typically take months to review, could be verified in a day by using such new tools. This opens new paths in mathematics research.Ā

Mathematics and the newest stained-glass window De Staat in Paradiso
Mathematicians Pim van der Hoorn and Mike van Santvoort (Eindhoven University of Technology) have collaborated with two artists to create a new stained-glass window for Paradiso -a music venue and cultural centre in Amsterdam- as part of the long-term art project "De Moderne Moraal".

Winner MATH+ Advent Calendar 2025
Each year, thousands of people compete in theĀ MATH+ Advent Calendar, a digital mathematics competition consisting of 24 challenging mathematics puzzles, organised in December by theĀ Berlin Mathematics Research CenterĀ MATH+Ā in collaboration with 4TU+.AMI.

4TU+.AMI's continued contribution to the MATH+ Advent Calendar 
With around 6000 participants from Germany, Europe and the rest of the world, theĀ MATH+ Advent CalendarĀ (also known as the Mathekalender)Ā is an important part of theĀ outreach activities of the Berlin Mathematics Research CentreĀ MATH+Ā and 4TU+.AMI. This annual, digital advent calendar contains 24 challenging math puzzles, primarily aimed at curious high school students, that are published online daily between 1 and 24 December.

Interview with Shobhit Jain about SRI on Model Reduction
In 2024, 4TU+.AMI financed a new SRI on Model Reduction for Industrial Applications. The main goal is to strengthen collaborative research and training on model reduction among the five AMI partner institutes, other Dutch universities and potential industry partners. The SRI has almost six months until completion and we thought this is a good moment to reflect on the past year and share their goals for the future.Ā In this interview, Shobhit Jain (TU Delft) shares his experiences from leading this SRI.

First Dutch Sequential Decision-Making Community Meeting Brings Together Over 50 Researchers
From 27–29 August 2025, the first meeting of the Dutch Sequential Decision-Making Community took place at EURANDOM, Eindhoven University of Technology. Organized by LNMB and hosted by the 4TU.AMI Strategic Research Initiative on Real-world Inspired Sequential Decision Making, the three-day programme brought together more than 50 participants from the Netherlands and across Europe.

MathEdN.nl enters a new phase
The MATHematics EDucation Network NL (MathEdN.nl) was initiated by EWM-NL and has since become a product of the 4TU.AMI MEReP Strategic Research Initiative. The platform is designed for mathematics instructors in Dutch higher education, providing a national space to exchange ideas, experiences, and practices in teaching mathematics. By connecting educators from universities and universities of applied sciences, MathEdN fosters dialogue and helps to build bridges between practice and research.
