Big Data: Mathematics in Action
The Big Data section of the  Applied Mathematics Institute of the 4TU federation (4TU-AMI) has held an informal symposium on Friday afternoon, November 24, with about 50 participants from academia and industry.The goal was to strengthen the connections between applied quantitative research at the Dutch universities of technology and private partners. Een wiskundige formule voor een theepot, een kopje cappuccino of de maan? Het is allemaal te zien op de reizende tentoonstelling IMAGINARY – wiskunde in sprankelende beelden. De tentoonstelling laat de verborgen schoonheid van wiskundige formules zien door deze te tonen als driedimensionale, gekleurde objecten. IMAGINARY wordt op 16 september 2016 geopend op de TU Eindhoven.

Healthcare Operations Research Summer School
21-25 July 2017: University of Twente, Enschede We are excited to announce a special summer school on Healthcare Operations Research this summer at the University of Twente, the Netherlands! The event targets PhD students working on OR applications focused on improving healthcare. Participants will learn state-of-the-art OR techniques taught by renowned international professors, learn about how to successfully engage with the healthcare practice, and meet other PhD students from around the world. The program includes a wide variety of components including technical lectures, tutorials, inspiring seminars, interactive activities and a design competition of a serious game that demonstrates a healthcare OR/OM concept to healthcare professionals. The total workload of the summer school is 2 European Credits (2 ECs = 56 hours), consisting of preparation and contact hours. For more information: Summer School Healthcare Operations Research

Workshop Data-Driven Operations Management
Location: Eurandom, TU/e Date: October 24-26, 2016 Program-outline:This workshop will be part of a Stochastic Activity Month on Stochastic Operations Management. The expected number of participants for the workshop is 60. The program will feature keynote lectures by three internationally renowned researchers. Around 15 additional speakers will give invited presentations. Furthermore, the organizing committee is planning a panel discussion on the topic of the future of the theme as well as an open problem discussion and a poster session. Description: Each year the “Werkgemeenschap Scientific Computing” (WSC) organizes a three-day conference on scientific computing in Woudschoten, Zeist. In the WSC all groups active in scientific computing at universities in the Netherlands (including CWI) and Flanders (Belgium) participate. The attendance of this conference during the past 10 years has been 100-140 people. Many PhD students and staff members of the participating groups attend this conference.
