Conference Design for Human Autonomy

Date/deadline: Wednesday, 18 June 2025

The TU Delft Design for Values Institute invites researchers, professionals, and students interested in the ethics and design of technology to attend the closing conference of its Annual Theme on Design for Human Autonomy, taking place on June 18, 2025 (09:00–18:00) at TU Delft.

Description
This day will give you a broad view of different perspectives on the relations between design, technology and our human autonomy.

This is crucial, because nowadays the drive for autonomous technology spans from workplaces to personal lives, promising breakthroughs in safety, healthcare, and daily conveniences. But this raises a crucial question: What happens to human autonomy? Historically seen as a tool to enhance our freedom, today's technology risks undermining human control and agency.

How can we then enhance our human autonomy, through technological design? This event serves as a stepping stone to bring these discussions forward. Register now, since there are only limited spots available!

Keynotes include:

Cass R. Sunstein (Harvard University), author of Nudge and The Ethics of Influence, on the ethics of influence and autonomy in design.

Suzie Kewal (Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations), on safeguarding human autonomy in digital public services.

The program also features several interactive workshops (parallel sessions), the publication of a White Paper on designing for human autonomy, and the award for the Best TU Delft Student Thesis on Design for Human Autonomy.
