4TU.Alumni is organising two special events on Tuesday, 2 December in Washington and on Thursday, 4 December in New York.
Washington:
This event is hosted at the World Bank Headquarters, courtesy of the Office of the Executive Director for the Netherlands Constituency and will offer a behind-the-scenes look at how major international organizations shape the world — through the experiences of 4TU alumni working at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank.
As part of the programme, UT alumnus Dirk Jan Grolleman will share his career path and insights from his current role as Deputy Division Chief, Financial Supervision & Regulation Division, IMF Monetary & Capital Markets Department.
This will be followed by first-hand perspectives from World Bank (alumni) young professionals during an interactive panel featuring:
- Bramka Arga Jafino (TUD alumnus), Disaster Risk Management Specialist
- Josina Mellink (WUR alumna), Environmental Specialist
- Kaja Waldmann (UT alumna), Natural Resource Management Specialist
The programme concludes with an informal borrel/networking mixer.
New York:
This event is hosted at the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in New York and puts a spotlight on two local alumni.
Marleen Vogelaar (alumna TU/e) in a short talk shares her entrepreneurial journey across two continents — starting from co-founding her 2007 startup in the Netherlands all the way through the growth, successes, and challenges that followed. Today Shapeways is headquartered in New York, with factories and offices in Eindhoven, Queens, and Seattle.
Paulus Schoutsen (alumnus UT), founder of Home Assistant and a pioneer of open, privacy-respecting smart-home technology will be interviewed about his insights and lessons learned from building one of the world’s largest open-source platforms with nearly 2 million users.
In addition, brief updates will be given from both the Dutch Consulate and our four universities, followed by a networking borrel reception.
