Final Publication Sector Plan project: Advancing University Teaching and Educational Careers

We are proud to present the final publication of the sector plan project Advancing University Teaching and Educational Careers. This publication provides an overview of the current state of the teaching culture in the 4 TU’s. It highlights ongoing efforts to enhance the teaching culture and explores key questions:

·        Are there opportunities for academics who aspire to a teaching-focused career, and if so, what are these opportunities?

·        Do different stakeholders perceive a teaching-minded culture?

·        Is management equipped to foster and enhance such a culture?

We aim to provide a realistic answer to these and other closely related questions.

We are very grateful and proud that educators, support staff, and managers have shared their insights, experiences, and recommendations with us so this publication offers a comprehensive overview of both theory and practice, reflecting the current state of affairs. We hope it will inspire many to continue strengthening the teaching culture in higher education.

An important next activity is already on its way: the third run of the Teaching Cultures Survey led by Dr Ruth Graham, CEE’s long-term partner from the start of the Centre a decade ago. After 2019 and 2022, this third and final run of the TCS will shed light on important perceived and experienced teaching culture developments over the years; globally – with about 20 participating universities world-wide – and across our 4TUs specifically. Please, participate! 4TU academics will be sent invitations via local, institutional notifications.
