At WUR, a team of researchers (Kazem Banihashem, Omid Noroozi, Harm Biemans and Perry den Brok) continues to monitor teachers and students in dealing with the transition to online and blended education as a result of the Covid-19 crisis. The project already collected data during different waves in 2020 and 2021. However, WUR was interested to learn how teachers adapted in the post Covid-19 period, and wanted to obtain input for a longer term policy on blended and online education. Via surveys, data was collected with both students and teachers, mapping their stress and wellbeing, use of tools, attitudes towards online and blended education, and needs for the future in teaching online. First results indicated that student motivation increased considerably in 2022, stress decreased considerably, while workload remained more or less stable. For teachers, it was found that workload and stress remained high and even increased a bit further, while motivation also showed a small increase. Data also showed that approximately 30 percent of all courses was still mainly taught online, the remainder being blended or completely on-campus.

Online formats were mainly used for individual study, assignments, peer feedback and formative assessment purposes. Currently, interviews with teachers and students are being conducted to obtain a more in-depth understanding. Findings and updates will be posted on the Innovation map page of the project and are being presented at various conferences. Also, two scientific papers have been submitted to journals, focusing on student and teacher profiles in attitudes and beliefs and how these relate to teaching practices and perceptions thereof.
