Project introduction and background information
This platform of open educational resources is an initiative of the 4TU Centre for Resilience Engineering involving the Delft University of Technology, Eindhoven University of Technology, University of Twente and Wageningen University and Research. The 4TU RE's community of researchers and educators share the ambition to educate future generations of engineers to be able to plan and design systems that are resilient to shocks, while being adaptive to changing trends and innovation.
Objective and expected outcomes
The aim is to publish conceptual teaching materials, comprehensive case studies, and games for lecturers to adapt and adopt for their own teaching purposes.
Results and learnings
- +100 individual materials and sets on resilience across engineering and non-engineering disciplines.
- Most materials are published in editable, short formats conforming to a "mix-and-match" approach.
- Users regard the 4TU.RE.OER as inspiring attending the need for resilience education.
- Preferred materials for re-using include practical exercises, animations of resilience heuristics, and editable PowerPoints.
- Main reasons for using 4TU.RE.OER is saving time, getting inspired, and tapping into a (new) resilience domain.
Recommendations
- A user-friendly website is critical to saving time and effort in finding and adapting material.
- OER requires a curating and peer review process, which is best supported by an engaged community.
Practical outcomes
The resources about resilience engineering are divided into 8 collections:
- Core concepts of resilience engineering
- Design principles for critical services and infrastructures
- Measuring and Analysing Resilience of STE Systems
- Governance and Institutional Arrangements of Complex STE Systems
- Ethics of Resilience
- Dutch and International Case Studies
- Urban Resilience Games
- Full-Lenth Courses
