Hybrid Lunch Meeting Learning Analytics at TU/e; Self-regulated Learning and Automated Prognostic Student Progress Monitoring System

Self-regulated Learning (SRL) is a prominent topic in learning sciences and learning outcomes are impacted by SRL behavior. However, providing feedback on SRL behavior is still a topic of research (e.g., Winne, 2005). The results of the research by Tudor Cristea and colleagues, show the power of Learning Analytics to recognize SRL activities. An important basis to provide (automated) feedback on students SRL behavior.

Mark Bentum, Ramiro Serra and Niels Vertegaal show their results of a project resulting in an Automated Prognostic Student Progress Monitoring System (APSPMS) that can automatically and reliably generate a prognosis of the final outcome of a student's performance during a course based on the student's current comprehension of the course content. Additionally, the system can suggest corrective recommendations for both the student and the educator in order to prevent unsatisfactory results, improve the prognosis and increase the quality of learning. In other words, the system supports the personal learning path of students.

During the meeting there will be time for broader knowledge exchange in the domain of Learning Analytics. We will also reflect on supporting new initiatives to use digital traces left behind in the edtech landscape intelligently for the benefit of learning and teaching.
