Workshop and lunch presentation 'Interdisciplinary team work skills'

Wednesday 22 - 23 May 2019

Workshop and lunch presentation ‘Interdisciplinary team work skills’

-Learn how to realise interdisciplinary integration in team work-

On 22 and 23 May 4TU.CEE is organising a lunch presentation and workshop on the theme ‘Interdisciplinary Team work Skills’.  Bjørn Sortland and Reidar Lyng of NTNU Trondheim and Hanne Løje of DTU will visit the University of Twente on the 22nd and TU Delft on the 23rd to share their experiences with interdisciplinary courses. You are most welcome to join the lunch presentation and/or the workshop.

NTNU has a compulsory course on interdisciplinary team work skills, for master students across the faculties for science, engineering, architecture, humanities, social sciences, economy and medicine with a large number of students. At DTU 3rd year bachelor students in the engineering programme follow a compulsory course, inspired by the NTNU course, in innovation and interdisciplinarity called ‘Innovation Pilot’.

In both courses students work on real-life challenges brought in by companies. Students with different backgrounds practice their collaborative skills: how they and the other team members contribute, and how the team functions as a dynamic whole. At the same time students need to involve the context reality of the companies in solving the challenges.

About the lunch presentation

In the lunch presentation the courses of NTNU and DTU will be compared. The three speakers will address how teams are assembled, assignments are chosen, and how team skills are assessed at the two universities. Implementing and encouraging interdisciplinarity, and handling company contacts will also be topics of discussion.

About the workshop

The workshop will be given by Bjørn Sortland and Hanne Løje, Ph.D. During the workshop the participants will receive more in-depth knowledge of the courses on tools, ways of working and challenges that had to be overcome. The workshop is focused on exchange of experiences on interdisciplinary teamwork, the different approaches towards implementation and the advantages of the various formats or ideas about interdisciplinary ways of working.
