The 4TU ‘unspeakable us’ team invites you to learn and apply the results of their research into the skills, methods and values in inter- and transdisciplinary education. These terms are often used, yet hardly ever actually spoken about. We aimed to make the invisible and unspeakable, and present you with a method to help us talk about and position education that stimulates an integrated approach when collaborating on societal challenges.
During this workshop meeting, we will briefly introduce the research, the steps, findings and (adjusted) outcome: An enabling tool for transdisciplinary education design. The methods are based on constructive alignment, and support iterative steps to integrate educational elements. The educational elements that are explicitly addressed are: disciplinary positioning (mono/multi/inter/trans), challenge-based education, complexity, skills, values and methods.
The method enables three types of integrative interaction: shared development, collegial positioning and critical reflection.
- The shared development method aims for a course team to (further) develop a course (course level).
- The collegial positioning method aims for courses within one curriculum to share experiences and align approaches (curriculum level).
- The critical reflection method aims for a more fundamental discussion on course construction (educational level).
