WUR joins CDIO: the main worldwide education network for technical universities

We are proud to announce that Wageningen University & Research has joined the CDIO network last October. WUR is the first of the 4TU to join with all BSc and MSc programmes. The membership opens many opportunities to explore and exchange innovations in engineering education. Perry den Brok, chairman of 4TU.CEE: “I am pleased that WUR now also has become a member of the CDIO network and look forward to a fruitful cooperation with other member universities”.

CDIO support for innovations in education

The CDIO network works with 12 standards for effective and futureproof design-inspired education. These standards help with implementation, evaluation and continuous improvement of education. The standards can also aid in the accreditation of curricula. “Being a member, WUR will now also be involved in formulating the next (3.0) version of the CDIO standards,” says Emiel van Puffelen, 4TU.CEE leader at WUR, and involved in the application process of CDIO. Policymakers and teachers have access to tools for implementation, assurance and evaluation of education and regional and global meetings. Van Puffelen: "CDIO participation enables the strengthening of design learning outcomes in curricula and education innovation. Furthermore the CDIO network also exchanges ideas about contemporary education challenges, such as flexible learning paths; implementing data and entrepreneur tracks in the curriculum and the use of Living labs."

About CDIO

The CDIO (Conceive, Design, Implement, Operate) concept was conceived at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 2000 MIT in collaboration with three Swedish universities - founded the CDIO Initiative.
It became an international collaboration, with universities around the world adopting the framework. At present 175 universities have joined the network including the other 4TU universities and many more top technical universities worldwide.
