4500th PDEng diploma in the Netherlands

Tuesday, 27 October 2020

On Thursday, October 22nd, the 4500th PDEng diploma in the Netherlands was awarded. Software Technology trainee Hossain Muhammad Muctadir was completely surprised during the graduation ceremony that took place in a small group at the TU/e campus. He was very pleased to receive this honor.Ā

Hossain executed his PDEng project in the context of the Internet of Food (INoF) project. The INoF project is part of the Sustainable Food Initiative, a consortium of leading food companies and research institutions with the aim to produce healthy and safe food products at the lowest possible environmental footprint. Inter-organization collaboration can stimulate fast innovation and sustainable research processes by significantly reducing data and information loss as well as miscommunication. Such interdisciplinary collaboration requires an appropriate digital infrastructure that can maintain interoperability among diverse data formats and models from different sourcesĀ and experiments, e.g. based on (multi)sensing techniques.

During his project, Hossain developed such a prototype infrastructure where one organization can share their computational models, which can calculate properties of food products, to other organizations as a service.Ā

Hossain, originally from Bangladesh, finished a MSc Software Systems Engineering at RWTH Aachen University. He started his PDEng traineeship at TU/e in 2018. His supervisors,Ā Jakob de Vlieg (TU/e) and Michiel Gribnau (Unilever),Ā praised his way of working in the INoF project:Ā in a very organized, transparent, and focused way, always delivering what he had promised. When issues came up, he put them on the table and openly discussed ways to handle them. All these elements, next to his strong commitment and scientific skills, made his project a great success.Ā
The INoF project was funded by TKI Agri&Food.
