4TU.CEE role model for Sweden

On the 28th of August, Aldert Kamp, 4TU.CEE leader of TU Delft, was invited by the Swedish Royal Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) in Stockholm to join their 100-year Jubilee Seminar for a keynote, a seminar presentation and a contribution to three workshops. He presented his vision on the future of higher engineering education and also discovered that in Sweden 4TU.CEE is seen as a role model of universities working together in enhancing engineering education.

Keen audience

The Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences is made up of decision-makers and experts from business and industry, academia and public administration. The 100 participants, including the Minister for Higher Education and Research, Matilda Ernkrans, showed extreme interest in the keynote in which Kamp presented his vision on the future of higher engineering education. Also his presentation ā€œDiversity Mattersā€ about the benefits, pains and frustrations in diversity in education portfolios, gender balance in the classroom and academic staff, and international students, loosened the tongues of the audience.

ā€˜Holland model’

Not only had the audience questions about the presentations, many people wanted to hear about the key assets of the 4TU.Centre for Engineering Education: the way the universities collaborate and meet, the mutual trust, the main themes, the sharing of outcome and experiences. At the workshops about changing engineering demands, changing student generation, and lifelong learning, and after the presentations, various leaders repeatedly referred to this ā€œHolland modelā€ of collaboration between institutions. It was seen as an outstanding example, that should be investigated for the Swedish context for enhancing engineering education.
