Keynote Ruth Graham: The future of engineering education

Wednesday 28 November 2018 / 12.30 - 14.00

The Future of Engineering Education

Find out more about the state of the art in engineering education and challenges that come with high quality programs in this keynote by Ruth Graham!

Rapid changes in technology trigger new jobs and updated engineering study programs in many countries. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) asked Ruth Graham to survey the global state of the art in engineering education as input for their own MIT educational reform plan NEET. Results were published in Spring 2018 and will be presented by Ruth in this session together with the challenges that come with high quality programs, such as how to combine challenge based project education with rigorous attention for engineering fundamentals? In the discussion the Twente Education Model can be compared with these global trends.

Dr. Ruth Graham has a background in mechanical engineering. After working in the aerospace industry she directed the redesign of all undergraduate engineering programs at Imperial College (UK). Since 2008 she is an independent higher education consultant. Besides supporting many universities in improving teaching and learning, Ruth Graham is also leading the Royal Academy of Engineering project in which an international consortium of universities strive for improved support and reward for teaching excellence.

This keynote is part of the University of Twente’s week of inspiration and is highly interesting for both education programme managers, lecturers and students from 4TU. The vice dean for education at the UT Faculty of Engineering Technology, dr. ir. Marjolein Dohmen, will chair the discussion. The event is organised in collaboration with 4TU.CEE. You are most welcome to join! The keynote is also available here.
