4TU.Energy welcomes Karin Schroën to its Board. As Chair of Food Process Engineering at Wageningen University & Research, she brings valuable expertise in sustainable process engineering and industrial applications.

Karin Schroën joins the 4TU.Energy Board

4TU.Energy is pleased to welcome Karin Schroën to its Board. As the newly appointed Chair of Food Process Engineering at Wageningen University & Research, Karin brings valuable expertise in process engineering, food microtechnology, membranes and modelling to the 4TU.Energy community.

Karin will join the 4TU.Energy Board alongside Mark Bentum (Eindhoven University of Technology), Fred van Keulen (Delft University of Technology) and Bart Koopman (University of Twente). Together, the Board will contribute to shaping the strategic direction of 4TU.Energy for the 2027–2030 period.

Connecting food process engineering and the energy transition

Karin’s research focuses on developing fundamental insights in process engineering to enable more sustainable production of food and food ingredients. Reducing energy consumption in food production is an important part of this work.

Her expertise in food microtechnology, membrane technology, modelling and separation processes also connects closely with challenges in the energy transition. More efficient separation processes, for example, can contribute to reducing energy use and developing more sustainable industrial processes.

With her experience spanning fundamental laboratory research and large-scale industrial processing, Karin brings an important perspective to 4TU.Energy: connecting scientific innovation with practical applications and industrial impact.

Strengthening the 4TU.Energy strategy

Karin's appointment comes at an important moment as 4TU.Energy develops its strategy for 2027–2030. Her interdisciplinary expertise and experience in bridging research and industry will contribute to strengthening collaboration across the four Dutch technical universities and Wageningen University & Research.

“We are very pleased to welcome Karin to the 4TU.Energy Board. Her expertise in sustainable process engineering and her ability to connect fundamental research with industrial applications will be highly valuable as we further develop our energy research and collaboration agenda.”

Welcome to the 4TU.Energy Board, Karin!

We look forward to working together to strengthen collaboration across disciplines and contribute to a competitive, sustainable and resilient energy ecosystem.
