The application of sophisticated mathematical techniques to digital communication is a traditional strength of the Dutch research landscape, which has made the Netherlands the home of algebraic coding theory and algebraic combinatorics in Europe over the course of the last decades. The goal of this project is to support and reaffirm the leading role of the Netherlands in this research domain, by fostering the creation of a collaboration network among five researchers based at different Dutch universities and institutes. The funding received from the 4TU.NIRICT initiative will be used towards the organization of a 4-day workshop on the applications of combinatorics to digital communication, covering predominant trends in the field (optimization for data storage, code-based cryptography, extremal combinatorics for error correction, DNA-based data storage, network information theory, and rank-metric codes). The workshop will serve to strengthen and advertise the collaboration network of the applicants and increase the visibility of the entire research domain within and outside the Netherlands.
