On October 10, 2025, the Centre for Human Drug Research (CHDR) will open its new clinical research unit at Medisch Spectrum Twente (MST). This will be CHDR’s second research location in the Netherlands, alongside its centre established in Leiden in 1987. The opening marks the next step in the collaboration between CHDR, MST, and the Technical Medical Centre of the University of Twente (UT).
The establishment of the CHDR Twente aligns with the ambition of all three partners to jointly further develop a vibrant medical technology research cluster in Twente, with a focus on therapeutic innovation. We contribute to the development of better medicines and treatments for patients, making an impact on the region.
About CHDR
For nearly 40 years, CHDR has been a leading independent organisation in clinical drug research. The institute has grown to over 300 employees and is located in the Leiden BioScience Park, between Leiden University and Leiden University Medical Centre, with which it maintains close collaborations.
With a view to further growth, CHDR sought expansion beyond the Randstad. The right partners were found in Twente: Medisch Spectrum Twente, a large STZ hospital, and the University of Twente with its TechMed Centre focused on medical technology, research, innovation, and technical medical education. Both institutions already collaborate and provide space for an independent clinical research department. Their ambitions are well aligned. In 2024, a cooperation agreement was signed, and the development of CHDR Twente began.
