Over the past four years, 4TU.Energy has continued its mission of accelerating the energy transition through connecting and strengthening research and education. The review shows how this has translated into impact in four main areas:

A notable example is the contribution of seed-supported networks to the successful €16.5 million NWO-LSRI grant for the UTOPYS consortium. News.

The review also highlights the growth of 4TU.Energy as a community and platform. Flagship activities such as the annual Community Day and PhD Course have become important meeting points for researchers, PhD candidates, teachers and external partners. At the same time, initiatives such as the “Meet Our Energizers” series, the Research Map and the Curriculum Overview have helped make the 4TU.Energy network more visible and accessible to researchers, students, educators and external stakeholders.

In numbers, the review shows a strong and growing ecosystem: more than 100 research groups and 1,000 researchers are connected within the 4TU.Energy landscape; the Research Map now includes 13 main research domains and 99 sub-topics; the Curriculum Overview contains 119 energy-related courses; and the LinkedIn community has grown to 2,346 followers (on 9 March 2026). The report also shows increasing participation in annual events and continued collaboration with partners such as Deloitte, Distribution System Operators, GroenvermogenNL and other 4TU networks.

Looking ahead, 4TU.Energy’s 2027–2030 strategy focuses on building a competitive and sustainable energy ecosystem. The thematic priorities for scientific impact are grid congestion, energy hubs and resilience. On the societal side, 4TU.Energy aims to strengthen its role as a structural interface between research, industry and public stakeholders, helping connect knowledge to innovation programmes, pilot environments and policy agendas.
