Earlier this year, 4TU.NIRICT introduced the Call for Community Funding, designed to strengthen collaboration between researchers and practitioners within the 4TU.NIRICT community and enhance the impact of ICT research across the Netherlands.
We are thrilled to share that two proposals have been awarded funding! These projects help build a more connected community.
Virtual Lab for Embedded Systems in University Education and Research -VES-Lab
- Dr. Reza Hassanpour, Computer Science Department, Groningen University
- Prof. Dr. Ir. Bedir Tekinerdogan, Wageningen University & Research
- Dr. Andrea Minuto, Informatica, Applied Science University of Rotterdam
VES-Lab aims to establish a virtual lab where three Dutch universities can collaboratively design, test, and apply embedded systems in education and research. The project enhances accessibility to hands-on experimentation, promotes collaboration across institutions, and lays the foundation for scalable, AI-driven, and data-intensive applications.

- Prof. Dr. Ir. Geert Heijenk, Full Professor, Department of Computer Science, UT
- Dr. Nitinder Mohan (Assistant Professor)
- Dr. Tanya Shreedhar (Postdoc), Department of Computer Science, Delft University of Technology
- Dr. Habib Mostafaei, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science, Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e)
- Dr. Siamak Farshidi, Assistant Professor, Department of Information Technology Group, Wageningen University
- Dr. Joshi Kishor (Assistant Professor), Department of Electrical Engineering, TU/e
- MSc Hassani Hamid (PhD candidate), Department of Electrical Engineering, TU/e
This project explores methods to measure and reduce carbon emissions in end-to-end networked systems. By bringing together researchers from electrical engineering and computer science, it addresses key factors driving emissions across hardware, protocols, and system-level behavior. The ultimate goal is to develop sustainable, scalable solutions for digital infrastructure and engage the broader Dutch ICT community in translating research into real-world impact.
