Earlier this year, 4TU.NIRICT launched the Call for Community Funding — an initiative aimed at fostering collaboration among researchers and practitioners within the 4TU.NIRICT network, while boosting the impact of ICT research in the Netherlands.
💡 We're excited to announce that three proposals have already received funding! These projects contribute to building a stronger community and provide a springboard for launching new research initiatives.
📢 This is a continuous call, open until the budget is fully allocated. Each proposal can request up to €50,000 in funding. So if you have a great idea that supports community building and groundbreaking ICT research — this is your chance!
🔹 Algorithms and Hardware for Embedded AI
- dr. Amirreza Yousefzadeh, Assistant Professor, University of Twente (Embedded Systems, EEMCS faculty)
- dr. Rajendra Bishnoi, Assistant Professor, TU-Delft (Electrical Engineering, EEMCS faculty)
- dr. Guangzhi Tang, Assistant Professor, University of Maastricht (Computer Science, DACS)
- dr. Manolis Sifalakis, Principal Researcher, Innatera, Delft
This project will establish the first symposium on "Algorithms and Hardware for Embedded AI" — envisioned as a recurring event.
With the Netherlands playing a leading role in embedded AI innovation, this symposium will boost collaborative research, international visibility, and connections between academia and industry in this rapidly evolving domain.
🔹 The FIRE Symposia Series: FPGA Innovation Research Exchange
- dr. ir. Nikolaos Alachiotis (Asst. Prof., Computer Science, U. Twente + HW Accel. Network)
- prof. dr. ir. Ana-Lucia Varbanescu (Chair of CAES group, U. Twente + IPN FCSN + IPN EDI)
- dr. ir. Zaid Al-Ars (Assoc. Prof., Electrical Engineering, TU Delft + HW Accel. Network)
- dr. ir. Roel Jordans (Asst. Prof., Electrical Engineering, TU/e + HW Accel. Network)
- dr. ir. Mohsen Safari (HPC Advisor, Computer Science, SURF)
- dr. Jeremie Vandenplas (Researcher, WUR)
- dr. ir. Anton Wijs (Asst. Prof., Computer Science, TU/e)
- dr. ir. Christiaan Baaij (QBayLogic, Co-Founder)
This series addresses the growing relevance of FPGA technology for sustainable, high-performance computing.
Following the success of four well-attended events (with the 5th scheduled for June 27), the team will extend the series with three more workshops, focusing on emerging FPGA-driven AI applications and heterogeneous computing systems.
🔹 Supporting NCN2025 – The National Summit on Neuromorphic Computing
- Dr. Christos Strydis – Associate Professor, Department of Quantum and Computer Engineering (QCE), TU Delft
- Dr. Federico Corradi – Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering (EE), TU Eindhoven
- Dr. A. Yousefzadeh – Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science (CS), TU Twente
This project supports the next edition of Neuromorphic Computing Netherlands (NCN) — a summit uniting researchers from fields such as brain-inspired computing, neural modeling, and neuromorphic hardware.
NCN2025 will connect early-career and senior researchers, foster interdisciplinary collaboration across the 4TU institutes, and stimulate new research ideas and joint proposals in this exciting frontier of ICT.
