We are delighted to invite all staff and researchers affiliated with the 4TU Netherlands Institute for Research on ICT (4TU.NIRICT) to the annual 4TU.NIRICT Community Day – an engaging and interactive afternoon designed to connect, inspire, and share knowledge across the Dutch ICT community.

13:30-13:55:  Neuromorphic Computing: From Principles to Prospects (Rajendra Bishnoi, TU Delft) 

AI is becoming widespread, but its growing computational demand leads to significant energy consumption, which is a critical issue for edge devices that require always on, low power intelligence. Traditional von Neumann architectures are struggling with memory bottlenecks, limited scalability and poor energy-efficiency, prompting the search for alternatives. Brain-inspired neuromorphic computing offers a path beyond existing architectures by enabling event-driven, massively parallel and energy-efficient information processing. In this talk, I will introduce the fundamentals of neuromorphic computing and trace its evolution. I will then present both digital and analog neuromorphic hardware platforms, with key examples that show their capabilities. Ultimately, this talk aims to highlight how neuromorphic computing can shape the next generation of intelligent and energy-efficient technologies.

Short-Bio: Rajendra Bishnoi is currently an Assistant Professor with the Computer Engineering Group, Delft University of Technology (TU-Delft). He received the Ph.D. degree in computer science from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany, in 2017. He was a Research Leader with the MRAM Group, for more than two years. From 2006 to 2012, he was a Design Engineer with Freescale (now NXP), where he was a part of the Technical Solution Group in memory and SoC flow. His current research interests include neuromorphic computing, computation-in-memory, and emerging technologies. He was a recipient of the EDAA Outstanding Dissertation Award in 2017. He has served on the TPC for several prominent conferences, including ICCAD’25, DAC’25, DATE’25, DATE’24, ICCAD’24, ETS’24, DATE’23, and DATE’22. Also, he has held the role of Topic Track Chair for DATE’26, DATE’25, DATE’24 and  ETS’24. He was also a guest editor for the Frontiers in Neuroscience Journal in 2022.

15:15-15:45:  From Idea to Impact: How the 4TU Ideation Labs Accelerate Science Toward Application (Claire Visser, TU Delft Impact Studio / 4TU Impact)

The 4TU Ideation Labs are a joint initiative of the four Dutch technical universities to turn scientific research into societal and economic impact. The program connects researchers with entrepreneurial students to explore the market potential of scientific innovations. In just five months, we identify informal IP and promising research outcomes, validate their real-world applications, and lay the foundation for spin-outs, pilots, or licenses. Learn how we facilitate this and more for researchers with just one hour a week of time commitment. 
During this session, I will share how the Ideation Labs work in practice, highlight key results from themes such as Hydrogen & Green Chemistry and Future Network Services, and explain how new partners can participate in upcoming thematic Labs.
