MathEdN.nl enters a new phase

Monday, 1 September 2025

The MATHematics EDucation Network NL (MathEdN.nl) was initiated by EWM-NL and has since become a product of the 4TU.AMI MEReP Strategic Research Initiative. The platform is designed for mathematics instructors in Dutch higher education, providing a national space to exchange ideas, experiences, and practices in teaching mathematics. By connecting educators from universities and universities of applied sciences, MathEdN fosters dialogue and helps to build bridges between practice and research.

Goals

MathEdN focuses on what happens in mathematics education at the university level in the Netherlands. The network provides a space for instructors to exchange ideas and experiences, to explore innovations in teaching, and to reflect on challenges in the classroom. At the same time, it aims to connect these practical experiences with findings from mathematics education research, so that both can inform and strengthen each other.

Audience

MathEdN is primarily aimed at mathematics lecturers and instructors in higher education. It also offers researchers in mathematics education a way to connect with everyday teaching practices and the questions that arise from them. Students benefit indirectly through the improvement of teaching inspired by the shared knowledge and practices.

Activities and Outlook

MathEdN offers a growing collection of short contributions in its online Library, ranging from examples of classroom practice to reflections on assessment and student engagement. In addition, the network will regularly connect to national events where mathematics education is discussed, creating opportunities to exchange perspectives between instructors and researchers.

Looking Ahead

In the coming period, MathEdN will continue to expand its Library and develop as a meeting place for everyone involved in teaching mathematics in Dutch higher education. The website will become an increasingly valuable resource for sharing experiences, strengthening the link between practice and research, and fostering collaboration across institutions.
