4TU.Redesign members Donika Xhani, Gayane Sedrakyan, Anand Gavai, Renata Guizzardi, and Jos van Hillegersberg have published a new paper titled “The Role and Applications of Semantic Interoperability Tools and eXplainable AI in the Development of Smart Food Systems: Findings from a Systematic Literature Review” in the journal Intelligent Systems with Applications (ISwA).
In this work, they review how semantic interoperability tools, such as ontologies and knowledge graphs, and explainable AI methods are being used to support more responsible, transparent, and personalized food (recommender) systems. In addition, they explore how semantic interoperability tools can enhance explainable AI by enabling more transparent, semantically rich, and meaningful explanations that help build user-trust.
This work contributes to the REDESIGN project’s goals of promoting responsible and user-centered AI technologies in complex socio-technical domains such as food and health.
