Industrial Design serves as the crucial bridge between technology and society. In the Netherlands, the discipline is built on a strong foundation of collaboration between the four technical universities through the 4TU.Centre Design United.
To build on this strength and make the discipline 'future proof', we are proud to introduce the Design United Research School. This joint initiative is established to deliver high-quality PhD-level education and cultivate a vibrant, collaborative community of design researchers across the Netherlands. The Design United Research School is complementary to the graduate schools, offering a dedicated curriculum in design.
By uniting our strengths, we will educate the next generation of design researchers, ready to lead in a high-tech world and effectively address the complex challenges of our time.

Course offering 2025
Academic paper writing is an art in itself. For all 4TU PhD candidates and academic staff members who would like to receive guidance in writing their papers, dr. Rick Schifferstein (TU Delft) will teach his successful writing course again from November 2025 until May 2026.
The course focuses mainly on writing empirical papers reporting user studies, but adjoining topics are welcome as well. Participants will work on their papers during the course and provide each other with feedback.
