Vitaliy Krupin

I am a researcher holding an assistant professor position in the Department of Economic Modelling at the Institute of Rural and Agricultural Development, Polish Academy of Sciences (located in Warsaw, Poland).

Originally majoring in international economics and trade I have gradually become more focused on rural development, agricultural and environmental economics. Current research involvement includes several directions: resilience of the farming systems, economics of agricultural production, assessment of agricultural impact upon the climate change through greenhouse gas emissions, bioeconomy. In many of my researches I am also very much interested in the development of Ukraine both in regard to general economic and institutional issues, as well as rural and agricultural development processes.

My project involvement includes several EU research projects (SURE-Farm, LIFT and upcoming TRADE4SD under Horizon 2020 programme), LIFE Climate CAKE PL project (under LIFE programme), as well as two bilateral research projects with institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. I have formerly contributed to projects financed by USAID, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Poland, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. I also have the pleasure to be the guest editor of the “Energy Sources from Agriculture and Rural Areas” special issue at “Energies” (ISSN 1996-1073) peer-reviewed open access scientific journal, expert evaluator at Polish Agency for Enterprise Development (PARP) and National Research Foundation of Ukraine (NRFU), and a member of editorial board of scientific journal "History of national economy and economic thought of Ukraine" published by the Institute of Economy and Forecasting of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Over the 16 years of scientific work I have authored or co-authored over 130 publications.

My main resilience research was conducted within the Horizon 2020 SURE-Farm project (https://surefarmproject.eu) and concerned the resilience of the Polish horticulture farming system. Currently I am working on expanding this experience to assess the resilience of farming systems in Ukraine, evaluate their development possibilities and production processes within the prism of resilience, as well as research the directions, measures and capacities to strengthen their resilience.
