Diego Sesma-Martín

I hold a PhD in Economics from the Public University of Navarre (Spain), where I have been involved in several projects funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO). During my time as a pre-doctoral candidate, I benefited from a FPI (Research Staff Training) grant from the same institution.

My research interest focuses on the water-energy nexus and, more specifically, on quantifying the amount of freshwater resources needed for thermoelectric production in Spain. I have published various papers in international peer-reviewed journals, have presented my research in different congresses, and have been part of the organizing committee of the annual workshop on the Water-Energy-Food Nexus (Pamplona, Spain).

The fellowship from the Young Resilience Fellows Program is enabling me a research stay at the Water Management (WM) group of the University of Twente. The aim of this collaboration is to produce a scientific paper on the vulnerability and resilience of the Spanish electricity system to climate change, which I believe can feed into the 4TU DeSIRE program.

I consider that the 4TU Centre for Resilience Engineering plays an essential role when fostering synergies among multidisciplinary experts, in order to anticipate the major challenges that societies will be facing in the coming years.
