I am Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in the Department of Engineering Systems and Services (ESS) at TU Delft and Adjunct Professor (Dosentti) in Computer Science at University of Helsinki. I lead the Cyber-Physical Intelligence (CPI) Lab at ESS with over 12 years of R&D experience across EU, UK and USA. Prior to TU Delft, I have worked at TU Munich, Columbia University, University of Cambridge, and University of Helsinki. I obtained MSc and PhD both with distinction from the Department of Computer Science (Birthplace of Linux) at University of Helsinki. Part of my PhD programme was carried out at University of Cambridge and at Columbia University (New York).
My research focuses on edge computing, edge AI, and data-drive IoT services. I have been leading and participating in many international projects (H2020, EIT, German DAAD and Tekes Finland) in tight collaboration with industrial companies such as Nokia, Ericsson, Intel, Deutsche Telekom, T-Mobile, Telia, Elisa, NEC and F-Secure. For contributions to mobile and edge computing, my work is awarded the Best Paper of ACM EdgeSys, Best Presentation of IEEE INFOCOM, ACM SIGCOMM Best of CCR, and PhD fellowships from the Academy of Finland and University of Helsinki. I am a two-time recipient of the esteemed Nokia Foundation Scholarships.
Being active in ACM, IEEE and IETF, I am the founder of ACM EdgeSys and an Associate Editor for IEEE Open Journal of Intelligent Transportation Systems (OJ-ITS) responsible for areas of mobile edge computing and 5G for smart vehicles. I am on the organizing committee for ACM MobiCom and ACM MobiSys of 2020. Besides co-chaired IEEE INFOCOM HotPOST and ACM MobiSys PhD Workshop, I have served on the Board of IEEE ComSoc YP, Executive Committee of IEEE Finland, and on the IETF NomCom to nominate and select IETF leadership for the Internet standardization. At TU Delft, I serve on the Executive Committee of Power Web Institute, and on the University Works Council of Research & Education Committee. I am also the co-founder of FCN workshop series, a joint initiative to promote active collaborations between top European and Asian research institutes, including Cambridge, Delft, Helsinki, Leuven, London, Munich, Oslo, Stockholm, Vienna, EPFL, MPI, IMDEA, Tsinghua, Peking, Fudan, and Chinese Academy of Science (CAS).
