Postdoc Support for 4TU Research Community Building

THIS CALL IS CLOSED

An important goal of 4TU.NIRICT is to bring the Dutch ICT community closer together. Current community building activities include support for exploring new research areas, part-time mobility of faculty members from their home university to a research group at another (4TU) university in the Netherlands, building a network of the younger generation of ICT researchers (ICT Next Generation/ICTng), and facilitating the exchange of education materials. Bringing the community closer together works best if faculty know one another, as well as each other’s research environment, team, department and university.

This call for proposals aims to support community building through offering financial support for a number of postdoc positions to stimulate research collaboration among 4TU.NIRICT members across universities. Each postdoc will be appointed at one of the 4TU, but is expected to be hosted at two universities, dividing their time equally among both organizations. Proposals can be submitted if the following minimal criteria are met:

  • A candidate for the postdoc position must already be available when submitting the proposal, i.e., the candidate has agreed to accept the position if funding is awarded.
  • At least one of the host institutions must be a 4TU university.
  • Postdoc positions must start before October 1, 2017, and in principle are for 1 year of 1.0fte maximally. Positions may be awarded for less than the requested duration.
  • The funded positions are at direct costs (salary & social securities, no section, department, faculty or university overhead) for a maximum of 60 k€ annually. An annual benchfee of 10 k€ is also funded.

In order to apply for funding, please submit a proposal by e-mail to Kim de Jong (K.deJong@tudelft.nl) describing the four items mentioned below.
The deadline for applications is May 1st 2017 and the page limit is one A4

1. Who are the applicants and the postdoc candidate?

 A. State i) title and name, ii) position, iii) affiliation (section/department & university), and iv) email and phone number of each of the applicants. Applicants must be scientific staff members at a Dutch university, and as stated above at least one of the two host institutions must be a TU.

B. State i) title and name, and ii) current affiliation (section/department & university) of the postdoc candidate who will fill the position if funding is awarded. The candidate currently does not have to be employed at a 4TU/Dutch university

2. When is the expected starting date and which duration and fte is applied for (max. 1 year of 1.0fte)?

3. What will the funding be used for?

Briefly describe the research challenge that will be addressed. Please be concrete and specific. Describe the role of each of the two applying research groups in addressing this challenge, and the added value of this combination of research expertise for addressing the challenge.

4. Why does the proposed research collaboration support the goal of the funding scheme?

Describe how the research collaboration will strengthen the 4TU.NIRICT research community, also beyond the involved research groups, for example because it connects to existing 4TU.NIRICT community building activities or other emerging or ongoing collaborations.
