4TU Delft
4TU Eindhoven
4TU Twente
4TU Wageningen

This year, Gijs Huisman joined the  4TU.H&T project Smart Social Systems and Spaces (S4). Gijs is a postdoctoral researcher at the Human Media Interaction group of the University of Twente. His research focusses on how haptic technology (technology that addresses the sense of touch) can be used for social and affective interaction in mediated communication and in interactions with artificial social entities such as virtual agents and social robots. In addition, he has a keen research interest in multimodal interaction, in particular, nature-inspired ambient technology for well-being and technology for human-food interaction.

He is the initiator of the Dutch national meeting on social and affective touch (“Dutch Touch”) and has organized numerous workshops on haptic technology and social touch at international academic and professional conferences. He has a passion for science communication and has given a number of invited talks about his work to various adiences. His research has been published at top-tier academic conferences.

In addition to his academic work he is partner and head of R&D at House of Haptics, a startup company that brings novel haptic solutions to market. He is one of the people behind the HEY bracelet, a wearable for social touch at a distance.

In S4 he hopes, amongst other things, to be able to work on 'touch' together with Eindhoven.
