Tina Comes new scientific director RE

Thursday, 10 September 2020
Dr. Tina Comes - Associate Professor on Resilience Decisions at the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management at the TU Delft - is the new Scientific Director of the 4TU Centre for Resilience Engineering (4TU RE).

Dr. Tina Comes - Associate Professor on Resilience Decisions at the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management at the TU Delft - is the new Scientific Director of the 4TU Centre for Resilience Engineering (4TU RE). She takes over from Professor David Smeulders (Eindhoven University of Technology).

Dr. Tina Comes has been actively involved in setting up the centre, is a member of the 4TU RE steering group and has been the co-scientific director since the start of the centre. Tina’s work is at the core of 4TU RE: she focuses on coordination and information to support decision-making for time-constrained and complex problems. Together with programme leader Prof. Tatiana Filatova and others, she has been actively involved in setting up the HTSF-programme DeSIRE. Moreover, Tina has led the successful application for an educational grant for open and online educational resources on Urban Resilience, which constitutes the basis for the Resilience Engineering Academy. In the beginning of March, she was awarded with a grant for the Horizon 2020 project HERoS to support decision-makers in managing the Coronavirus outbreak.

Dr. Marjolein Dohmen-Janssen, Managing Director 4TU RE: “We are really happy with Tina Comes as our new scientific director. Tina has been involved from the early days of the 4TU RE centre. She knows the centre and our people very well. Of course, we are sorry that David is leaving, but we are grateful for his efforts in starting 4TU RE and making the centre as successful as it is now. We wish him all the best and good luck with his new challenges.”

4TU RE steering group

Prof. David Smeulders will step down as the scientific director and as a member of the scientific steering group of 4TU RE. Prof. Geert-Jan van Houtum will take his position in the scientific steering group as representative from TU/e. Geert-Jan has already been actively involved in 4TU RE and in the DeSIRE programme, and is connected to three of the DeSIRE Tenure Trackers.
