These organisations in the sector are the Association of Universities in the Netherlands (VSNU), the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO), the 3TU.Federation and the Montesquieu Institute.
Theme
The core theme of the event is “The 2020 Horizon: Dutch academia’s contribution to prosperity and well-being in Europe.”
How do Dutch universities and scientific organisations influence European decision-making? What opportunities and challenges to they encounter? And how do European regulations affect the academic world?
All the main political parties have been invited to take part in the debate at Delft University of Technology on Wednesday 14 May, between 16:45 and 19:30. It is to be held in the university’s Aula, a prestigious venue with an auditorium seating about a thousand people. The audience will be a cross-section of the academic community: students, researchers, lecturers and representatives of the five organising bodies.
Format
The debate is being divided into three rounds, focusing upon different aspects of our domain. Each begins with a brief introduction by a leading academic, followed by a panel discussion with a national politician and a candidate for the European Parliament. The event will be streamed live on the Internet, including to audiences gathered on the University of Twente and Eindhoven University of Technology campuses. The parties approached to take part are the VVD, the CDA, the PvdA, GroenLinks and the SP.
