The addition of RUG’s Faculty of Science and Engineering and its broad-based university perspective creates new opportunities for educational innovation in collaboration with the engineering education expertise of the four technical universities.
Around two years ago, the University of Groningen (RUG) began actively exploring ways to collaborate with the 4TU Centre for Engineering Education. We are happy to announce that this has led to the University of Groningen joining 4TU+.CEE as a formal member.
Alongside Delft, Eindhoven, Twente and Wageningen, RUG participates in the CEE Board, represented by Dr. Gerald Jonker, CEE’s Scientific Lead for Groningen. Prof. Lucy Avraamidou represents RUG on the CEE Advisory Board. This collaboration brings together the engineering education expertise of the four technical universities with RUG's Faculty of Science and Engineering, as well as its broad-based university perspective, creating new opportunities for educational innovation.
In 2026, CEE at RUG initiated and hosted a local project portfolio on how we can develop personal leadership competencies among engineering students in a rapidly changing world — including an increasingly AI-augmented learning and working environment. RUG brings this experience into the joint CEE project portfolio for the 2027–2030 period, where Dr. Jonker will lead the joint CEE theme of Personal Leadership and Professional Identity.

Gerald Jonker, associate professor at the University of Groningen (RUG), Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE) joined the board of the CEE in 2025. In that time Groningen University and 4TU.CEE have been exploring collaboration via a bottom-up approach in joint projects and events. g.h.jonker@rug.nl
