Research

4TU.AMI has five research teams in which members of all four universities are represented. The focus areas are Big Data, Energy, Health, Resilience and Water.
4TU Delft
4TU Eindhoven
4TU Twente
4TU Wageningen

Research teams (SROs)

AMI Research is organised in research teams or Strategic Research Orientations (SROs). Within an SRO members exchange knowledge and expertise and carry out joint research. In this way cooperation between the mathematics groups of the four universities is actively stimulated. Furthermore, the SROs contribute effectively to collaboration with the business community and (international) knowledge institutions.

At AMI researchers you will find a complete list of all applied mathematics chairs of the four universities.

Research areas

Currently we focus on five research areas. A brief introduction of the applied research and its coordinators:

Big Data

There is a major challenge to extract sensible information from massive data sets. The Big Data research team combines strengths in statistics and numerical analysis to tackle problems in big data.

Coordinator: Prof.dr. N.V. (Nelly) Litvak, UT and TU/e
E-mail: n.litvak@utwente.nl or n.v.litvak@tue.nl

Energy

The envisioned energy transition toward a sustainable system leads to fundamental changes in the energy supply chain. The Energy research team uses mathematics to find solutions to face this transition.

Coordinator: Prof.dr. J.L. (Johann) Hurink, UT
E-mail: j.l.hurink@utwente.nl

Health

Mathematics is used to make suitable models to improve our health and health care. The Health research team focuses on three directions: medical imaging, optimization of medical processes and modelling of biomedical processes.

Coordinator: Prof.dr. S.A. (Stephan) van Gils, UT
E-mail: s.a.vangils@utwente.nl

Resilience

The Resilience research team wants to understand how the interaction between people and the environment generates resilience, and how we can increase it to deal with the major challenges of the 21st century.

Coordinator: Dr. G.A.K. (George) van Voorn, WUR
E-mail: george.vanvoorn@wur.nl

Water

With respect to water, research is essential for everyone across the world. Water research goes further than just water. It improves our safety, our access to clean drinking water and the protection of our ecosystem.

Coordinator: Dr. H.M. (Henk) Schuttelaars, TUD
E-mail: H.M.Schuttelaars@ewi.tudelft.nl

Research requests

Do you have a research request? Or do you want to know which kind of applied research is being or has been conducted regarding certain topics? Don’t hesitate to contact us. We know what’s going on in the field of (applied) mathematics and will link you to the right researchers or research groups.

E-mail: ami@4TU.nl

Research data

The 4TU.Federation has a center for research data. It offers researchers knowledge, experience and tools for sharing and safely preserving applied scientific research data. Check out 4TU Research Data if you need help to archive your data.
